About The Position

The Cancer Registrar is responsible for reviewing the records of patients diagnosed, treated, or followed for cancer at Lexington Medical Center. This role involves collecting diagnostic, prognostic, treatment, and survival data to monitor and analyze cancer incidence, treatment outcomes, and performance improvement. The registrar assists with administrative planning, marketing, support programs, and research activities. They interpret data for research projects, compile data for state and national databases, and maintain the oncology registry database in compliance with Commission on Cancer (CoC) standards, SEER federal guidelines, and the South Carolina Central Cancer Registry (SCCCR).

Requirements

  • Minimum Education: Associate's Degree.
  • Minimum Years of Experience: None.
  • Required Certifications/Licensure: CTR Certification.
  • Substitutable Education & Experience: Associate's Degree can be substituted for a High School Diploma and 5 Years of Experience as a Cancer Registrar.

Responsibilities

  • Identify reportable neoplasms to be included in the registry as outlined by CoC standards.
  • Create suspense files for identified reportable neoplasms by abstracting information from the patient medical record.
  • Perform oncology coding and abstraction of identified reportable neoplasms for inclusion in the registry database.
  • Document AJCC for cases abstracted into the registry database.
  • Collect survivorship data for all applicable newly-diagnosed cancer patients.
  • Perform a comprehensive review of data entered for each patient to ensure completion and accuracy.
  • Act as a liaison with Radiology, Pathology, Oncology, Nurse Navigators, and physicians for scheduling cases for weekly oncology conferences.
  • Disseminate appropriate oncology conference information to departments each week.
  • Ensure room and audiovisual equipment setup for weekly oncology conferences.
  • Serve as a resource for physicians needing assistance with required online disclosures.
  • Attend and record minutes from oncology conferences and document in the registry database.
  • Assist with Cancer Committee meetings as requested by Cancer Registry Manager.
  • Maintain competency and stay abreast of current literature and trends by participating in cancer-related educational activities.
  • Perform all other job-related tasks as assigned by Cancer Registry Manager.
