About The Position

To drive a campus transit bus to transport passengers around Starkville/MSU area. This position is a full-time position employed for 12-months of the year. Salary Grade : 08 Please see Staff Compensation Structure or Skilled Crafts and Service Maintenance Compensation Schedule for salary ranges. For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.

Requirements

Ability to read and write.
Three years experience operating motor vehicle with at least one year involving commercial operation.
Valid Driver’s license, personal and commercial; Class B License with airbrake and passenger endorsement.
Clear driving record.
Completion of drug tests which indicate an absence of illegal controlled substance use.

Responsibilities

Operate campus transit bus on a designated route to transport passengers around campus.
Provide assistance to passengers in loading and unloading as necessary.
Maintain vehicle interior keeping it free of debris and trash.
Ensure that all safety precautions are adhered to at all times; provide verbal instructions to passengers as necessary to ensure compliance.
Must exhibit a courteous demeanor with passengers.
Maintain accurate handwritten departmental records and logs in accordance with established guidelines and requirements.
Assist with training newly hired drivers as requested.
Report all accidents immediately and in accordance with established guidelines.
Operate radio communication equipment to coordinate and communicate shuttle intervals, coordinate breaks, and appraise base of pertinent information.
Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspection of equipment and vehicle in accordance with established guidelines for reporting any extraordinary situation or discovery.
May require occasional shift work and occasional overtime in the absence of sufficient bus operator pool.
Perform related duties as assigned.
