About The Position

Responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of students, staff, and school facilities at the assigned location. Key duties include supervising and monitoring students inside and outside the building, enforcing appropriate behavior standards, addressing and communicating with students about behavior issues, escorting students and unauthorized visitors as needed, assisting with fire drills and other emergency procedures, and supporting the removal of disruptive students from classrooms.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in the English language.
  • Interpersonal skills, conflict management, and behavior management expertise.
  • Basic computer literacy and familiarity with office productivity software.
  • Proficiency with two-way radios is required within two weeks of hire.
  • Basic familiarity with student information system software may be required within two weeks of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • 1–2 years of experience working with elementary and/or middle school students.
  • 1–2 years of experience in military or law enforcement.
  • First Aid and CPR certifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the interior and exterior of the school building before, during, and after school to ensure the safety of students and staff and the security of school facilities.
  • Validate that exterior doors remain secure throughout the school day.
  • Provide high visibility throughout the campus by patrolling hallways, common areas, parking lots, and other gathering spaces to deter unsafe behavior.
  • Intervene in verbal or physical conflicts, defuse hostile situations, and enforce school policies related to safety, dress code, traffic rules, and prohibited items (e.g., weapons, tobacco, illegal substances).
  • Monitor students during lunch periods inside and outside the building.
  • Maintain familiarity with and enforce the Student Conduct and Discipline Code, Safe Schools Handbook, and other regulations.
  • Administer warnings to students and refer serious disciplinary cases to administrators.
  • Mentor and counsel at-risk students, fostering expected behaviors.
  • Supervise detentions and in-school suspension as needed.
  • Observe and respond to disturbances, unauthorized visitors, or criminal activity, assessing danger and calling for assistance when necessary.
  • Investigate incidents involving students, such as fights, thefts, and substance abuse.
  • Escort students for disciplinary reasons and remove unauthorized personnel from campus.
  • Assist with emergency drills (fire, tornado, evacuation) and respond to actual crises following Emergency Response Plans.
  • Assist visitors and verify they have appropriate passes.
  • Monitor parking areas, issue permits, and manage parking violations.
  • Assist School Resource Officers (SROs) and law enforcement during investigations or crises, including monitoring security cameras and conducting searches for prohibited items.
  • Maintain accurate electronic records of disciplinary actions, parking enforcement, and security incidents.
  • Provide security at sporting events and extracurricular activities outside school hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Attend ongoing training to enhance safety and security skills.
  • Support staff and students during crisis situations and ensure compliance with lockdown protocols.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
