About The Position

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 1. Responds to all calls for service. 2. Conducts investigations as required. 3. Provides security and protective services to the campus community by direct patrolling assigned buildings and grounds. 4. Responds to emergencies by assessing the situation and employing tact, diplomacy, and individual judgment in order to remedy and/or maintain control. 5. Completes necessary incident reports as required by policy. 6. Maintains radio contact with the dispatcher. 7. Provides crowd and/or traffic control during scheduled activities and/or emergency situations. 8. Provides access to buildings when requested and verifies that such access is authorized. 9. Observes and promptly submits work orders for all safety hazards for immediate correction by designated university personnel. 10. Ensures parking areas are patrolled and enforcement of campus parking regulations are followed, issuing citations as needed. Ensures fire lanes remain clear and initiates actions necessary to remedy parking infractions in accordance with university policy. 11. Provides and ensures that all requested escorts are completed in a timely manner. 12. Maintains a thorough working knowledge of the campus including its topography, buildings, streets, persons and/or organizations. 13. Assists in the training of new officers assigned to the shift as directed by the training supervisor. 14. Provides relief at the Control Center. 15. Responsible for securing campus buildings on the assigned shift. Patrols and completes security checks of assigned buildings and grounds, including exterior/interior doors, windows, and essential buildings equipment such as heating and air conditioning systems, etc. 16. Contacts appropriate Facilities Management personnel, if necessary, to respond to emergency repairs. 17. Shall attend all professional development and in-service training as assigned. 18. Performs any other work-related duties as required. Requirements

  • Entry level.
  • High school diploma or equivalent education that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties of this position.
  • Must be certified by the State of Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services as a CSO within 180 days of employment and have a valid Virginia State Vehicle Operators License.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior law enforcement, security, or military experience preferred
  • Emergency medical (EMT), CPR and AED is also preferred
