About The Position

The Campus Security Guard Substitute is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the school campus and its surrounding areas. This role involves patrolling the campus, monitoring student release policies, overseeing visitor activities, and managing parking and traffic control. The guard will greet every vehicle entering the campus and encourage students to exhibit appropriate behavior. The position requires a commitment to maintaining a secure environment and performing related duties as necessary.

Requirements

  • Previous experience with Law Enforcement or Military is a plus.
  • Permit for exposed firearm.
  • BSIS Guard Card.
  • BSIS Exposed Firearm Permit.
  • BSIS issued or approved permits: Baton, Oleoresin Capsicum, or Conductive Energy Weapon.
  • Ability to be calm, firm, and tactful, exercising wise judgment in stressful situations.
  • Ability to act quickly and exercise independent, mature judgment.
  • Ability to keep confidential information that is private and personal in nature.
  • CPR/First Aid certified, or willing to become certified.
  • Obtain certificate of negative result for TB screening prior to hire.
  • Ability to withstand the elements of the weather.
  • Ability to patrol campus by foot.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol school campus and immediate adjacent areas, conducting scheduled rounds of property or at station as assigned.
  • Ensure the building is secure and all entries and entrances are locked and closed during night-lockup.
  • Oversee and direct vehicle traffic and parking, especially during drop-off and pick-up.
  • Respond in a timely manner to general staff requests.
  • Respond immediately to staff requests and potential security issues/emergencies to ensure the safety of students, faculty, staff, and property.
  • Develop effective relationships with students, staff, faculty, and parents.
  • Monitor and encourage proper student behavior.
  • Physically able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Stop all cars as they arrive on campus.
  • Hand out appropriate maps to and help guide guests to their destination.
  • Write and store reports to be sent to the appropriate department manager no later than the next business day.
  • Keep the guard sheds clean, tidy, and locked accordingly.
  • Perform routine clerical work and prepare clear, concise reports.
  • Follow established school policies and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with local law enforcement and first responders as needed.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students and adults.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
