About The Position

The Department of Public Safety at the University of Southern Maine is seeking applications for a Campus Safety Officer. Join us and assist students in obtaining a safe, high-quality, accessible, affordable education. The Department of Public Safety at the University of Southern Maine is a full-service law enforcement agency, staffed by certified police officers, communications personnel, and safety officers. Campus Safety Officers are expected to be a common presence on campus, engaging and participating in community policing and problem-solving programs to improve the safety culture on campus. Campus Safety Officers are also trained and qualified to work occasional relief shifts in the communications center (dispatch). In addition to performing routine safety and security duties on the University campuses, Campus Safety Officers will have a close working relationship with our community. This is a full-time position with a starting hourly rate of $23.50. This position will have a 40-hour work week on a shift schedule that may include nights, weekend, and holidays. Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • One year of relevant work experience
  • Must be able to complete Maine Criminal Justice Academy dispatch training
  • Certified Terminal Operator & Emergency Telecommunicator within one year from date of hire
  • Must complete CPR/First Aid/AED certification within one year from date of hire
  • Valid Class C Maine driver’s license
