Position Summary The Campus Safety Officer position is assigned to Patrol Operations within Campus Safety. Campus Safety Officers are the primary safety and security personnel for the University. Their duties include, but are not limited to, patrol of the campus and its buildings and assisting the campus community with a wide variety of problems and concerns. We will be filling multiple positions from this posting. Please note Campus Safety Officers are Essential Employees .

  • Patrols assigned areas, physically inspecting buildings and checking doors, windows, entries and exits for safety.
  • Responds to fire alarms. Communicates with and assists fire, police Divisions and other public safety entities.
  • Provides initial response to emergencies and criminal incidents on University property; completes initial investigations to determine disposition.
  • Provides general assistance to the campus community and visitors.
  • Apprehends violators of city, state and federal laws and regulations that may have occurred on or involved university property.
  • Operates University patrol vehicles and radio equipment as assigned.
  • Completes written reports and maintains logs relating to activity on campus.
  • Assigned to duties as the Division dispatcher, to include handling incoming calls for service, monitoring fire and intrusion alarms, dispatching other officers to calls for service and monitoring CCTV systems for locations on campus.
  • Adheres to all Division and University policies, procedures, directives, rules and regulations.
  • Participates in the interview panel during the Divisions selection and hiring process when requested by Senior Management.
  • Participates in the Divisions recruitment and accreditation efforts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hiring.
  • Must possess a High School diploma or GED.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado drivers license and be insurable under University guidelines; or, obtain a valid Colorado drivers license within the required time frame.
  • Must successfully pass a written job related skills examination.
  • Must pass a complete background check to include criminal, motor vehicle report and verification of employment and education.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen and human performance evaluation administered by a University approved physician.
  • Post Hire Must have the ability to obtain or possess a City and County of Denver Security Guard License within 3 weeks of hire.
  • Must successfully complete initial certification in Basic First Aid/CPR/AED, Defensive Driving, and TPR (Threat Pattern Recognition) Use of Force Basic within 3 weeks of hire.
  • Must successfully maintain re-certifications in Basic First Aid/CPR/AED and TPR to ensure the maintenance of job related skills.
  • Must successfully complete an annual physical assessment test as part of TPR re-certification to ensure the maintenance of job related physical fitness standards.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment that requires individual thought and initiative.
  • Ability to maintain professional standards and conduct during stressful and oftentimes emotional situations.
  • Possesses strong oral and written communication skills to include basic computer and typing proficiency.
  • Ability to deliver and follow detailed instructions.
  • Ability to accept and successfully complete specialized training.
  • Thorough knowledge of simple set-up, adjustment, and operational procedures of work-related equipment.
  • Capable of facilitating the interactions of diverse needs of a complex organization.
  • Associate's degree or equivalent credit hours with an emphasis in Criminal Justice, Police Science, or Security Management; or 6+ months related law enforcement/Campus Safety experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
