About The Position

The Campus Safety Event Officer at Colgate University is responsible for providing professional and courteous safety services to the university community during various events. This role involves patrolling assigned areas, enforcing regulations, responding to emergencies, and engaging with students and staff to promote a safe and inclusive campus environment.

Requirements

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task and perform in a busy and stressful environment.
• Physical capability to respond to incidents and emergencies, including climbing stairs and patrolling on foot.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Understanding of confidentiality and privilege of information requirements.
• Current and valid NYS driver's license with a responsible driving history.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience as a campus safety/security officer or in a college/university environment.
• Experience in recognizing and resolving emergency situations.
• Knowledge of local and state laws.
• CPR, EMT, and First Aid certification.

Responsibilities

• Patrol and inspect all areas of assigned events, ensuring the safety and security of people and property on campus.
• Provide emergency response and protect life and property within the Colgate community.
• Manage and control traffic, crowds, and unruly individuals assertively and professionally.
• Communicate and interact effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
• Participate in educational sessions related to university policies on student conduct and diversity.
• Perform first aid, CPR, and AED as necessary, with training provided for those not currently certified.
• Evaluate situations and use discretion to resolve problems or refer to proper personnel.
