About The Position

Join Emory Hillel as our next Campus Rabbi to animate and elevate the Jewish experience on campus. As a Jewish leader, you will provide leadership for the campus community by creating spiritual connections, relationship building, and informal education. The Campus Rabbi promotes vibrancy in Jewish life through creative initiatives reflective of core Jewish values, while creating accessible and relevant Jewish programming, supporting students in celebrating Shabbat and holidays, and providing pastoral care and guidance. In partnership with exceptional colleagues, you will encourage sustained engagement, make Jewish learning relevant and accessible, and spur innovative growth in ritual, prayer, and spirituality. This position reports to the Campus Director at Emory Hillel. Emory Hillel is part of Hillels of Georgia connecting 10+ campuses across the state through programing, leadership development, staff development, and more. Hillels of Georgia’s vision is to inspire every student to proudly embrace their Jewish journey and to create an enduring connection to Jewish life and Israel.

Requirements

  • Rabbinic ordination and up to 1 year of experience (or equivalent experience in Jewish community leadership).
  • Experience in community organizing, campus work, youth movements, camping, or experiential Jewish education.
  • Proven success in community building and outreach, and previous experience in program visioning and implementation.
  • Expertise in leading complex conversations about Judaism and Israel in a way that is approachable and meets students at various points in their personal Jewish journeys.
  • A commitment to creating an inclusive, vibrant, and pluralistic Jewish community.
  • Creative problem-solving, entrepreneurial spirit, proactive communication, and collaboration.
  • Ability to work flexible hours needed to complete job requirements, including some nights, including Shabbat, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Craft and implement a strategy for the ritual, spiritual, and educational aspects of Emory Hillel’s work.
  • Build personal relationships with students from diverse backgrounds who are developing their Jewish identity through meaningful conversations and opportunities to participate in Jewish life on campus.
  • Build a culture of Jewish practice for students, developing meaningful prayer and ritual outlets for Shabbat and Holidays.
  • Manage our Jewish Learning Fellowship program, with four cohorts of at least 40 students per year, to bring creative, meaningful dialogue, and relevant approaches to Jewish learning to students from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Create new and exciting learning opportunities and/or experiences for students to engage in deeper Jewish thought.
  • Serve as a thought partner with colleagues throughout the Emory campus community in envisioning creative opportunities for Jewish life and advocacy for Jewish students.
  • Offer formal and informal educational experiences rooted in Jewish values and Jewish text to students of various backgrounds.
  • Provide pastoral care services for students, staff, and lay leaders.
