About The Position

Tacoma Community College (TCC) is seeking applicants for two Campus Safety Officer positions. One position is full-time, working 40 hours per week from Thursday through Monday, 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. The other position is temporary, working 32 hours per week from Monday through Thursday, 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The main campus is located in Tacoma, Washington, surrounded by outdoor recreational opportunities and cultural diversity. Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent education/experience.
  • 2 years full-time college education in police science or closely related field; or 2 years full-time experience in police, security, military, or campus security.
  • 1 year experience of First Aid/CPR instruction.
  • Successful completion of a criminal history background check prior to employment.
  • Possess a current, valid, unrestricted driver's license.
  • Must possess a clean driving record with no major violations.
  • Possess current CPR & First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service skills in all interactions with students, staff, faculty, and visitors of the college.
  • Patrol campus buildings, grounds, and parking lots on foot, by bicycle, or by vehicle to identify unauthorized use of buildings, equipment, or facilities and/or criminal activity.
  • Investigate complaints of disturbance, accidents, infractions, and criminal activity occurring on campus and undertake appropriate action or response.
  • Lock and unlock campus facilities and maintain lock and unlock schedule for the Security department.
  • Write complex reports documenting actions and maintain accurate records.
  • Respond to requests for first aid and support, assess the situation, and provide limited first aid support as authorized.
  • Issue citations for violations of campus parking and traffic regulations.
  • Assist in providing emergency notifications to staff, faculty, and students.
  • Perform related duties as assigned and participate in department training.
