About The Position

The Prevention and Outreach Specialist serves as the strategic lead for campus-wide health promotion and prevention efforts. This role is responsible for assessing campus needs, implementing evidence-based prevention initiatives, measuring program effectiveness, and cultivating cross-campus partnerships that advance student well-being at a population level

Requirements

  • Skills in planning, analyzing and coordinating activities and establishing connections with other departments and areas on campus
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, manage, and complete projects independently with minimal oversight
  • Strong knowledge on how to build and maintain a marketing and outreach strategy on a university campus
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology or willingness to learn
  • Working knowledge of computer operating systems and willingness to learn
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced university environment
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to holistic health and the integration of spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being in alignment with the mission of ACU

  • Computer skills (Preferred experience in Medicat (but willingness to learn), Google Doc, Excel, Banner, Concur, Insurance Billing)

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Public Health (Health Education and Promotion) or a similar field
  • Certification in health education

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate Health and Wellness Education to our Campus
  • Oversee Marketing and Outreach for the MACCC
  • Plan Prevention Initiatives for both Medical and Counseling
  • Collaborate with the Director of MACCC in administrative functions as required
  • Plan education initiatives to further educate our campus on health and wellness topics (alcohol/drugs, women’s health, suicide prevention, eating disorder awareness, etc.)
  • Serve as a resource for students needing alcohol and drug related support and/or referral
  • Implement the BASICS (Brief Alcohol. Screening and Intervention for College Students) program based out of the MACCC with students either mandated to participate via the Dean of Students or voluntarily requesting the program
  • Offer resources, referral and support to these students (counseling, educational materials and other resources)
  • Create a campus collaboration team made up of key campus partners and student leaders to help educate the campus about the risks of alcohol and drugs
  • Research best practices and state laws to ensure we are meeting the health and wellness educational requirements for an institution of higher education
  • Plan and implement marketing strategies to connect students and our campus community to the services that we provide
  • Manage our social media and other outreach tools
  • Collaborate with the Director of the MACCC to complete strategic plans and outcomes assessments to increase impact and value of the MACCC within the ACU community
  • Attend NSO (New Student Orientation) and other resource fairs on campus to distribute materials to parents and students about the MACCC
  • Lead in planning campus-wide events, lectures, and presentations that highlight the MACCC and its professionals
  • Partner with SGA (Student Government Association) to lead the student collaboration group. This group helps connect us with the needs of the students and our ability to meet them where they are
  • Help maintain quality and development of the Wellness Wheel
  • Collaborate with campus partners to ensure information is up to date and relevant in each section
  • Research best practices to ensure material is relevant and up to date
  • Help coordinate continued growth of the Wellness Wheel (marketing, content rotations, incentive updates, etc.)
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of Flu shot clinics around campus
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of TB clinics around campus
  • Provide clear and consistent education regarding suicide awareness and prevention, including yearly campus wide events as well as timely information disseminated to campus matching national days of recognition.
  • Conduct annual campus needs assessment and assist in analyzing utilization and prevention data
  • Research and implement best practices for prevention efforts on university campuses involving health and wellness
  • Prepare annual prevention impact report
  • Serve as a support to Director of the MACCC for financial and administrative inquiries
  • Participate in activities of Medical and Counseling Staff, SRWC Professional staff and Student Life teams and meetings as required
  • Provide technical support to the professionals in the MACCC when possible or assist them in getting issues resolved in a timely fashion
