About The Position
The Campus Police Officer at Wellesley College plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of the college community. This position involves engaging with students, faculty, and staff to provide a range of campus safety services. The officer is responsible for emergency response to safety concerns, medical emergencies, and emergency management preparation and response. Additionally, the officer will focus on crime prevention and safety education, fostering a secure environment for all members of the college community. As a representative of the Wellesley College Police Association, the Campus Police Officer is expected to uphold the values and mission of the college while performing their duties. The responsibilities of the Campus Police Officer include protecting the assets of the college community, which encompasses people, buildings, and grounds, to prevent crime and address public safety needs. The officer will respond to both emergency and non-emergency calls for service around the clock, investigate crimes and suspicious activities, and educate the community about Massachusetts General Laws. Active engagement with the local community, particularly in training and preparedness, is also a key aspect of the role. The officer will identify and apprehend criminal offenders and participate in court proceedings as necessary. Providing First Responder level medical assistance, facilitating traffic movement, and enforcing traffic and parking laws are additional responsibilities. The Campus Police Officer will also provide detail coverage for various worksites and events, attend required department training, and engage in supplementary training focused on personal and professional development. Other duties may be assigned as needed, ensuring that the officer remains adaptable and responsive to the evolving needs of the college community.
