About The Position

This position requires a current Oklahoma (CLEET) Peace Officer Certification; supervises the provision of public safety and law enforcement services for the OCCC Campus Police Department; directs, monitors, and evaluates both routine and critical police operations; patrols campus; takes calls and reports; supervises/conducts and evaluates the training and performance of new and incumbent campus police officers; utilizes positive inter-personal skills and behaviors to motivate, lead, and evaluate employees; demonstrates effective verbal and written communication; and works effectively and efficiently with supervisors, employees, and all other aspects of the College community to accomplish OCCC public safety goals. This position is safety sensitive and subject to mandatory pre-employment and random drug testing.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Minimum of 2 years of continuous law enforcement experience.
  • Current CLEET Peace Officer Certification, COPS Certification, or CLEET recognized reciprocity for Law Enforcement certification from another state.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of continuous law enforcement experience at a college or university including police supervisory experience.
  • Additional Mental Health Crisis Intervention training.
  • Bilingual.
  • CPR certification.
  • Intoxilyzer 8000 qualification.
  • CLEET Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) Instructor, and Custody and Defensive Tactics (CDT) Instructor certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the provision of public safety and law enforcement services for the OCCC Campus Police Department.
  • Direct, monitor, and evaluate both routine and critical police operations.
  • Patrol campus and respond to calls and reports.
  • Supervise, conduct, and evaluate the training and performance of new and incumbent campus police officers.
  • Utilize positive inter-personal skills to motivate, lead, and evaluate employees.
  • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication.
  • Work effectively with supervisors, employees, and the College community to accomplish public safety goals.
  • Adhere to policies regarding personal hygiene, dress, and appearance while on duty.
  • Attend pre-shift activity briefings and participate in required training.
  • Respond to public safety service requests, inquiries, complaints, alarms, and emergency messages.
  • Assist police officers in decision making and identify criminal acts.
  • Issue warnings and citations, and make arrests when appropriate.
  • Conduct investigations of crimes and accidents, interview victims, suspects, and witnesses.
  • Collect evidence and complete reports appropriately.
  • Testify in court as a witness and/or reporting officer.
  • Provide supervision and direction to armed security officers during law enforcement operations.
  • Assist in training new officers according to established guidelines.
  • Speak to groups about campus public safety issues and facilitate presentations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police.
