About The Position

The Campus Planner at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) plays a crucial role in the administrative and technical aspects of physical planning for the university. This position involves managing and coordinating campus planning projects, including space plans, master plans, and facility programs, to support the university's development and stewardship goals. The Campus Planner will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure the effective execution of planning initiatives that align with the university's master plan and capital program.

Requirements

  • Professional Bachelor's degree in planning, architecture, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in planning, architecture, or a related field, particularly in higher education projects.
  • Strong analytical, spatial, and organizational skills for data analysis and space concept development.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with university staff.
  • Knowledge of the design and construction process and the unique planning environment in higher education.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in planning, architecture, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and SketchUp or similar design applications.
  • Group facilitation skills for in-person and hybrid activities.
  • Active professional licensure in the degree-holding field.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and administrative support in planning and programming efforts that advance the university's master plan and capital improvements plans.
  • Engage with campus stakeholders and prepare graphics and documentation for facility programs and long-range planning documents.
  • Conduct and lead space utilization studies, needs assessments, and facility reallocation plans.
  • Retrieve and utilize datasets to analyze and develop strategies for planning projects.
  • Generate graphics for reports and presentations to support campus facilities maintenance and operations.
  • Provide architectural and technical guidance to junior staff regarding university facilities floor plans and CAD procedures.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers on capital construction projects to ensure adherence to university standards for room numbering.
