About The Position

The University Marketing and Communications (MarCom) team is seeking a motivated student employee to support event coverage and communications at BYU–Hawaii. This role will focus on promoting campus events and devotionals by coordinating social media, photography, video, and written communications. The assistant will collaborate with MarCom and University Events staff to ensure events are highlighted in engaging, timely, and professional ways that reflect the mission of the university.

Requirements

  • Must be available to work Tuesdays around devotional (10:30–12)
  • Strong interest in marketing, communications, journalism, or social media.
  • Experience with photography, videography, or social media management preferred.
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work evenings or weekends when events are scheduled.
  • Organized, dependable, and detail-oriented.
  • Team player who can also work independently.
  • Lower Division Courses Completed
  • 3 Months General Work Experience
  • Typical office environment

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and executing social media coverage of weekly devotionals, including promotion, moderating comments, caption writing, podcast uploading, and post-event recaps.
  • Provide on-site support for university events (e.g., Food Fest, Culture Night, guest speakers, concerts, etc.), ensuring accurate and engaging coverage.
  • Create content (photos, videos, stories, posts) for university social media channels.
  • Help draft captions, articles, and other communication materials for event promotion and coverage.
  • Monitor and engage with social media audiences during and after events.
  • Ensure accuracy of event details.
  • Collaborate with the MarCom team to brainstorm new approaches to highlight campus events.
  • Assist in maintaining the university’s photo/video archive related to events.
  • Support other marketing and communication initiatives as assigned.
