About The Position

Summer Camp at the JCCSF offers one to three-week sessions in both the traditional day camp and specialty camp settings for campers in grades K-8. Summer Camp is in session June 1 - August 21. Our classic day camps feature arts & crafts, STEAM projects, and sports. Specialty camps include visual arts, nature exploration, musical theater, science and more. The ideal candidate will have a strong background working with children in a school or camp setting, experience organizing and planning youth programs, and experience supervising camp staff. This is a very front-facing role, and someone who is outgoing and energetic is a must.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children in grades K - 8, preferably in a camp setting.
  • Ability to respond sensitively to diverse groups of children.
  • Ability to plan and execute creative activities for children.
  • Ability to lead and motivate groups of campers and staff.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Dedication to and eagerness for working in camp, informal education and youth programs.
  • Knowledge of summer camps.
  • Ability to work well both in a team environment and independently.
  • Enthusiasm, flexibility, and ability to improvise.

Responsibilities

  • Support general counselors and specialists by creating support plans, behavior charts, and camper break schedules
  • Work with paraprofessionals to coordinate camp schedules if applicable
  • Manage budget for any support supplies
  • Provide weekly activity communication
  • Support with camper pick-up and drop-off process
  • Create a safe, supportive, stimulating and fun environment for campers
  • Ensure campers' safety at all times
  • Set clear and consistent limits and resolve behavioral problems with assistance from supervisors
  • Model appropriate behavior for campers and staff.
  • Additional responsibilities as required.
  • Serve as a member of camp leadership team
  • Support staff. This includes meetings as necessary, and regular verbal and written evaluations.
  • Help organize and lead staff training.
  • Appropriately respond to crisis situations.
  • Step-in for staff breaks if necessary.
