About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Chief Naturalist, the Wokanda Manager is responsible for selecting, training, supervising and evaluating all subordinate maintenance staff, program staff and volunteers. The role includes scheduling and supervising all grounds and building maintenance and equipment maintenance throughout the park, coordinating all rentals of facilities, making or scheduling repairs on buildings and other camp structures, collecting fees from camp rentals, developing annual budgets, and supporting ecological restoration efforts. The manager will also maintain the trail system, keep facilities clean and well-maintained, and communicate with patrons in a courteous manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Parks, Recreation, Resource Management, Hospitality & Tourism, or related education.
  • Must obtain Food Safety Manager Certification.
  • Must obtain a valid applicator's pesticide spray license.
  • At least two years of recreation facility management experience.
  • Experience working with the public.
  • Experience with maintaining building interiors and exteriors.
  • Experience with grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Experience in maintenance and troubleshooting of camp electrical, plumbing and well systems.
  • Basic knowledge of rental facility management and customer service.
  • Ability to supervise staff and volunteers.
  • Valid Illinois State driver’s license.

  • Extensive experience in a similar position may substitute for educational requirements.
  • Proficiency with chainsaw and other power tools.

Responsibilities

  • Select, train, supervise and evaluate maintenance staff, program staff and volunteers.
  • Schedule and supervise grounds and building maintenance and equipment maintenance.
  • Coordinate rentals of facilities including booking reservations and providing assistance to rental groups.
  • Make or schedule repairs on buildings, roadways, trails and other camp structures.
  • Collect fees from camp rentals and keep records of all money collected.
  • Develop annual budget and track revenues and expenditures.
  • Support the work of the PPD Land Steward and assist with ecological restoration.
  • Maintain trail system within Camp Wokanda.
  • Keep assigned facilities and grounds clean and maintained.
  • Answer camp telephone and manager cell phone, assisting patrons as needed.
  • Operate chainsaws and other power tools for maintenance tasks.
  • Implement park district rules and regulations.
  • Report unsafe conditions and maintenance needs to supervisors.
  • Manage ancillary revenue sources including merchandise sales.
  • Make arrangements for groups and special events in the park.
  • Maintain equipment maintenance records.
  • Communicate with the PPD marketing and environmental teams.
  • Attend meetings and participate in leadership efforts.
  • Follow all safety procedures and support the Park District safety program.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
