About The Position

Provide direct supervision to an assigned group of camp staff during the seasonal day camp. Offer assistance with behavioral needs of campers. Provide a safe and quality experience to children and staff focused on our YMCA core values of caring, honesty, inclusion, respect, and responsibility.

Requirements

  • At least 21 years of age
  • Experience working with children and supervising others, preferably in a camp setting
  • Enjoys and is physically able to work outdoors
  • CPR, First Aid, Epi-pen, & AED certified prior to the start of camp

Responsibilities

  • Complete and assist in leading mandatory staff trainings (in person and online) & Staff Skills Verification sheet prior to camp.
  • Participate in camp meetings, functions, orientation, family nights, and carnival.
  • Arrive at your designated location at scheduled time, dressed appropriately, (Sneakers and socks; prepared for pool, and prepared to work (lunch, water bottle, sunscreen)
  • Supervise and coordinate with a group of camp counselors and junior counselors to ensure they are following a designed schedule, that is developmentally appropriate and consistent with the YMCA core values; Prepare for schedule changes, special events or weather related changes
  • Ensure that camp staff greet each camper by name and with a smile. Make sure each camper is dressed properly & has necessary supplies for camp, looks healthy, and has no injuries.
  • Effectively communicate with parents and supervisors about any behavior management issues or other concerns related to campers or staff.
  • Maintain accurate administrative records (tracking camper and staff attendance, time cards, accident/incident reports, inventory, phone calls and parent interactions)
  • Adhere to all program standards including safety and cleanliness; assist in maintaining equipment and supplies, and reporting any safety or maintenance issues to supervisor
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including but not limited to child abuse prevention and situations warranting discipline.
  • Be prepared for first aid and medical emergencies as described in the Camp Training Manual. Be familiar with camper and staff health concerns
  • Maintain positive relationships and provide support to co-workers; assist specialists in all activities with campers, i.e. arts and crafts, sports, ropes, etc.; actively supervise each of the camp areas, role modeling teamwork and sportsmanship.
  • Observe and evaluate camp staff and provide constructive feedback and positive reinforcement as needed
  • Schedule and supervise staff breaks; assist with camper behavior issues; connect with camp leadership and parents as needed
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth.
  • Complete required abuse risk management training.
  • Follow mandated abuse reporting procedures, including reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations
