About The Position

Join the 92NY Camps staff team! 92NY's team philosophy creates a stimulating work environment in which every staff member is valued. We are looking for dedicated, enthusiastic individuals to work as Counselors at Camp Tova. Camp Tova is specifically designed to meet the social, emotional and recreational needs of campers with disabilities. Campers and staff go on new adventures every day, traveling by air-conditioned coach buses. Camp runs from Monday-Friday, from July 7 until August 15 from 8am to 5:45pm; with a pre-camp orientation in June. Spring pre-camp work will be required.

Requirements

  • Education classes or experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field.
  • Experience working with children who have developmental delays.
  • Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and accomplish tasks with energy and creativity.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Attend staff orientation sessions during June and weekly staff meetings after camp day.
  • Daily supervision of campers, including meeting campers at 92NY, supervising campers while in transit to and from Camp, supervising and supporting campers during lunch and activities, and on Friday trips.
  • Assist regularly scheduled program activities (arts, sports, nature, crafts, ropes, cooking, Shabbat, Israeli Culture programming etc.) commensurate with the abilities, limitations and needs of individual campers.
  • Participate in the Camp's swim program and special events (including Theme Days, Trips, Overnights and/or Late nights).
  • Communicate regularly to Head Counselor and Camp Directors observations and concerns regarding the needs of individual campers.
  • Assume responsibilities for the health and safety of campers, with complete awareness of campers' whereabouts and allergies at all times.
  • Provide support and assistance to campers and nurture campers at all times while respecting their privacy and sense of self-worth.
  • Come prepared every day to fully participate in the Camp's activities, including the swim program.
  • Read and fully comply with the policies of Camp as set forth in the Staff Manual.
  • Exude enthusiasm for Camp life and activities and seek to incorporate the Camp's values including compassion, kindness, leadership, courage, and mindfulness.
  • Ability to stand and walk for several hours, often outside during the summer season.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • Ability to communicate directly with camp office regarding application, pre-camp paperwork, and throughout summer.
