About the position

The Camp Supervisor leads the camp program and staff during the summer months. This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This position coordinates and oversees implementation of programming that encourages physical, emotional, and intellectual growth in a safe and nurturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for daily operation of camp and overseeing daily activities from arrival to dismissal, and programs to ensure a quality camp.
  • Ensures that the camp daily activities, as well as, the themed activities are completed by the camp staff or specialists, and communicated with parents.
  • Responsible for the selection, onboarding of staff and performing evaluations.
  • Ensures appropriate staff schedules meet camper to staff ratio requirements.
  • Offers support to all staff and serves as a resource to them.
  • Handles staff disciplinary issues and utilizes appropriate documentation steps.
  • Enforces camp staff and camper policies.
  • Reviews and approves weekly lesson plans submitted by the camp staff.
  • Take responsibility for the safety of the children in the camp environment and the quality of the supplies, equipment and materials in the day camp areas.
  • Inventories camp supplies regularly and informs leadership of any items that are needed including medical; arts and crafts; sports; and general supplies.
  • Makes routine visits to activity areas to observe and ensures safety requirements.
  • Handles discipline/accident reports according to camp procedures and company policy to be reviewed by the Director.
  • Provides first aid care including dispensing of medications.
  • Participate in member retention, special events and fundraising.
  • Remain up to date on emergency procedures and Family Center policies.
  • Assure all programs are in compliance with all state and local requirements governing child care.
  • Promote and represent the mission and core values of the YMCA of Central Florida in the Family Center and its programs.
  • Attend all staff meetings as required.
  • All other duties assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Must be age 21 or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree preferred.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years work experience with school age children or the equivalent education.
  • Must have at least one year of camp programming leadership experience.
  • Must have previous staff supervisory, selection and leadership experience.
