About The Position

This position is responsible for: Plans, coordinates, and leads all recreational sports (softball, baseball, soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, etc.) at camp. Trains other camp staff to lead, chaperone, and monitor recreation activities. Ensure the safety of campers and staff while participating in field or other sporting activities, and ensure a positive experience for campers.

Requirements

  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
  • Ability to observe children and youth and ensure their safety.
  • Ability to work with children outdoors in various conditions.
  • Some physical requirements of the Camp Recreation Specialist position include endurance, including climbing, standing, bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity are required to manipulate recreational equipment and participate in activities.
  • Requires a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and to work irregular hours, delivering a program at the facility available.
  • Operate with daily exposure to the sun, heat, and varying environmental conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience leading sports or recreation activities preferred, OR
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, coordinates, supervises, and participates in a variety of recreation activities for campers, including field sports (softball, baseball, soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, etc.) and other sports; organizes activities and promotes participation.
  • Supervises recreation activities to ensure the safety of participants; instructs campers and staff in proper methods for play; monitors and directs behavior at all times to ensure compliance with camp rules.
  • Sets up sports and recreation areas for activities, and has all necessary equipment available for activities.
