About The Position

Supervises, plans, schedules, and monitors the planning and delivery of program activities and events. Assists in the management of the overall camp operation at the direction of the Camp Director. Supervises all programs conducted at the camp through subordinate specialists for various programs such as aquatic/lakefront activities, nature, arts & crafts, horseback riding, bicycling, archery, outdoor skills/camping, challenge course, and audio/visual. Designs and delivers program activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the camper’s age and abilities. Provides faith-based guidance and role modeling to campers. Participates alongside campers during camp worship meetings and times of prayer. Leads devotional activities and faith-based songs with campers and supports the seeker’s ministry.

Requirements

  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
  • Some physical requirements of the Camp Program Director position include endurance, including climbing, standing, bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity are required for manipulating activities.
  • Requires a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and to work irregular hours, delivering a program at the facility available.
  • Operate with daily exposure to the sun, heat, and varying environmental conditions.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of progressively responsible experience administering and developing youth programs preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Performs ministry functions such as presenting approved devotional material to campers, praying with a camper, or leading in Christian songs, etc.
  • Participates in regular camp worship meetings and times of prayer. Leads devotional activities with campers.
  • Supports the seeker’s ministry and prays with campers as needed; accompanies campers who come to the altar during the closing worship meeting at the end of the camp session.
  • Demonstrates Christ-like care and will be responsible for praying with campers, encouraging them spiritually, and guiding them in their Christian walk.
  • Supervises and monitors the day-to-day operations of the camp, including the various programs conducted at the camp, to include waterfront activities, nature, arts & crafts, horseback riding, bicycling, archery, outdoor skills/camping, challenge course, and audio/visual; ensures that programs run smoothly; and in compliance with established procedures.
  • Coordinates the weekly schedule of events with Camp Head Counselors and ensures it is conducive to a pleasant camp experience for campers.
  • Plans, develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates camp programs based on the changing needs of campers; develops programs or assists leaders in developing programs to target the enrolled campers.
  • Counsels staff and campers in conflict resolution; keeps the Camp Director abreast of conflicts affecting daily operations.
  • Develops, implements, trains, and enforces program and safety policies and procedures; prepares and updates procedure manual; leads campers and staff in emergencies.
  • Prepares statistical and other routine reports regularly and provides them to the Camp Director on a predetermined schedule.
  • Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean, and ready for inspection.
  • Provides leadership and serves as a mentor to camp staff.
  • Acts as liaison to weekly program staff to assist with their program needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
