About The Position

The Activities Manager participates in the implementation of the GSGLA Camp Lakota programs. The Activities Manager is responsible for overseeing programs and activities as set forth by the Camp Director, as well as facilitating programs within GSGLA safety guidelines. Activities Manager responsibilities include, but are not limited to, creating a positive learning environment in a summer camp setting, supervising activity specialists and the implementation of activities, and enhancing camp program and always ensuring the safety of campers.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age by the start of camp training.
  • Must be available for the duration of the overnight camp season including pre-camp trainings and post-camp clean up (May 2026 – August 2026).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid CPR/First Aid Certification throughout the position’s employment dates. Training will be available.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be willing and able to drive camp staff in a GSGLA van.
  • Must be willing to work weekends, early morning, and late-night hours as needed.
  • Must submit a basic health history form as set by the American Camping Association.
  • Ability to spend time sitting, utilizing the computer, and standing and walking throughout the facilities.
  • Ability to lift up to 45 pounds periodically.
  • Must possess endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • Comply with state-mandated reporter training
  • Attend GSGLA signature events and/or other activities as assigned
  • Must successfully complete a Live Scan and background check

Nice To Haves

  • Documented experienced teaching or interacting in youth programming
  • Minimum two years of experience in program planning, outdoor recreation, or camp operations.
  • Prior experience supervising staff and managing program areas or activities.
  • Experience working with youth in a camp, school, or community setting.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a fun and safe program that meets the standards laid out in the camp guide.
  • Ensure program schedules are prepared and implemented that meet camp outcomes and the abilities of the campers.
  • Evaluate program delivery abilities of staff.
  • Deliver progressive program activities and campers are programmed to their specific program.
  • Schedule kaper chart.
  • Evaluate the success of the program and the development of the campers’ abilities and skills in various program activities.
  • Coordinate all camp programs and campfire activities with program staff team.
  • Ensure that schedules are completed each Thursday each week, ready for the following week.
  • Daily check-in with activities staff in program spaces to ensure high standards at meet.
  • Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures during camp programs.
  • Ensure that ACA standards, state codes, and guidelines from GSGLA are followed.
  • Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
  • Set a good example to campers and others regarding general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship.
  • Provide guidelines for programs utilizing camp equipment.
  • Ensure campers and staff follow safety procedures in all program areas.
  • Assist in the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment in all program areas.
  • Oversee daily checks of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and in good repair.
  • Ensure that program areas are kept free of hazards and debris.
  • Collect weekly equipment check sheets to ensure the safety and up keeping of equipment
  • Supervise and evaluate Activity Supervisors and Specialists to develop and implement all facets of camp program activities.
  • Regularly monitor the work of Activity Supervisors/Specialists.
  • Provide feedback and guidance to Activity Supervisors/Specialists.
  • Provide recommendations and concerns to Camp Director regarding staff performance.
  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, providing support and guidance to those assigned as leaders.
  • Maintain clear and positive written and verbal communication with all camp staff.
  • Manage activity staff to ensure when program space is not running, staff are within unit/village.
  • Ensure activity staff are engaged at meal-times.
  • Develop and implement schedules and records for all areas of camp program and facilities.
  • Support staff in the creation of program and activity schedules.
  • Develop and supervise staff schedule for programs and activities.
  • Collect and evaluate records; report and evaluate camp program and activity areas.
  • Act as a member of the camp senior staff team both within activities and throughout the camp day to plan, direct, and supervise all camp operations.
  • Address program concerns in a timely manner; effectively communicate changes and concerns with the Camp Director.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of staff training.
  • Serve as a role model through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth.
  • Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special programs, sleep outs, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
  • Participate in senior staff meetings and lead daily staff meetings as needed.
  • Willingness and readiness to drive for Bagel and Home Crew
  • On-call on weekends to provide transportation for staff as part of the cultural exchange program, including trips to the city and destinations such as Target, Disneyland, and movie theaters etc..
  • Other duties as assigned.
