About The Position

SANDRA AND LEON LEVINE JCC The Sandra and Leon Levine Jewish Community Center is a non-profit, social service agency founded upon Jewish ethics and values. The Center provides and initiates diversified social, educational, recreational and cultural programs within a Jewish setting. The JCC is a partner in serving the community, is affiliated with the JCC Association of North America and a beneficiary agency of the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte. POSITION PURPOSE: The Camp Katan Specialist is responsible for providing for the social, emotional and educational needs of each camper and the group as a whole during the camp season.

Requirements

• Completed one year of College or College Degree (preferred).
• Camping and/or leadership experience.
• Good communication skills and ability to work well with preschool age children.
• Good character and integrity.
• Positive physical and mental health.
• The desire to work with preschool children in a day-camp setting.
• Commit to building a safe, child-focused community.

Responsibilities

• Participate in staff training prior to the beginning of the camp program.
• Supervision of a camp group (groups vary in size).
• Supervise health, safety and activities of campers.
• Follow weekly schedule of events and special activities.
• Teach/assist in all areas.
• Take initiative to analyze and solve problems.
• Supervise and participate with campers in all daily activities.
• Utilize appropriate behavior management techniques.
• Participate in parent related programs such as “Meet the Counselor”.
• Attend and contribute to weekly staff meetings and trainings.
• Interact with parents in a professional and polite manner.
• Supervise, encourage and teach junior camp staff as assigned.
• Any other responsibilities as assigned by Camp Director.
• Write weekly Camper notes to be sent home.
