To learn more about GSCY, visit our website: http://gscymca.org POSITION SUMMARY Camp Falcon - Princeton YMCA June 8th-August 28th Camp Falcon is seeking a Camp Health Director to support the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the general direction of the Camp Director, the Health Director will ensure a safe environment for the children during camp. The ideal candidate must love children, possess strong communication skills, and be alert. Individuals must be at least 21 years of age . The individual must be a nursing professional, nursing student, or an EMT and have current CPR and First Aid certifications.

Requirements

  • Minimum five years of experience working at a camp or related experience working with children in a leadership capacity
  • Must be able to independently lead, plan, and actively participate in a variety of activities
  • Experience in supervision
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure, above all else, campers are safe.
  • Ensure each camper has on file a health history and examination form, as required on Camp Docs.
  • Organize all camper medication and set up a “dispensing system” with medication binder(s) with instructions.
  • Conduct inventory of supplies and place orders when necessary, ensuring the timely arrival of supplies.
  • Establish and follow appropriate medical routines, including record keeping in daily medical log, disposal of medical waste, managing and safeguarding medications, and utilizing approved standing orders.
  • Check, maintain, and issue first aid kits when needed.
  • Participate in and lead specific areas of staff training pertaining to camp health and safety, CPR, first aid, and the use of universal precautions for infectious control.
  • Keep accident/incident reports that can be used for risk-management assessment.
  • Care for ill or injured campers or staff
  • Providing First Aid for minor injuries and illnesses: Cuts, scrapes, and bruises; Dehydration; Sunburn; Homesickness
  • Monitor the health of all staff.
  • Be a medical resource that would bridge the gap between basic medical knowledge and calling 911.
  • Monitor/evaluate camp procedures, facilities, and conditions and suggest modifications that would create more healthful conditions at the camp.
  • Perform Program Support duties as needed.
  • Attend regular staff meetings scheduled
  • Must attend and complete all required trainings.
  • At all times uphold camp safety standards.
  • Will understand and practice risk management and disaster policies and procedures.
  • Must follow all Association Aquatics Policy Guidelines.
  • Take on designated assignments for aquatic activities.
  • Help expedite arrival and departure from the pool (i.e. dressing rooms, etc.).
  • Follow all YMCA, ACA, and NJ Licensing standards and procedures to ensure the safest and best quality camp and to help maintain ACA accreditation.
  • Secure and submit all accident reports.
  • Report all immediate concerns to Camp Director or nearest supervisor.
  • Help to ensure supervision, safety, expedient procedures and fun activities on the bus.
  • Lead bus songs, stories and games.
  • Always maintain a professional demeanor, as you are a representative of the YMCA.
  • Wear Camp T-shirt daily.
  • Maintain positive attitude, responsibility and self-motivation.
  • Be punctual and reliable.
  • Create a positive and nurturing learning environment to instill youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
