About The Position

Summer STEM Explorers offers campers unique interactive learning experiences to develop their interest and passion for science. Whether learning about astronomy, paleontology, robotics, or game design, our counselors inspire the discovery of new facts, the use of new tools, and interesting questions. Our camp also helps campers gain valuable process skills that support their STEM career aspirations. Our team aims to provide a welcoming and engaging learning environment that ignites and sustains critical thinking and creative problem solving throughout the summer. CAMP SCHEDULE Schedule: May 18 to July 28, 2026, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM or 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Must be available to work all weeks of camp. Camp is not held the week of June 29 - July 3. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Act as an active, engaged Science Center employee as a creative, confident problem solver with the ability to make informed and level-headed decisions in a dynamic environment. Self-motivated to work flexibly, creatively and professionally as part of a team. Demonstrate exceptional oral skills in the facilitation of STEM programming with the ability to adapt to diverse environments, events, and audiences. Demonstrate a friendly, positive, and professional image to campers, parents, visitors and other staff. Engage students in meaningful lessons/activities through all facets of the learning exploration. Facilitate predeveloped lesson plans to campers from age five to nine years old. Direct classroom activities that engage and encourage camper participation. Display comfort in interactions with people of diverse ages, cultures, ability levels, and backgrounds. Physical Demands: Must be able to provide close supervision of campers ranging in age from 5-9, throughout various locations in the Science Center. Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to directions involving emergencies for other safety-sensitive situations. May be subject to large crowds and loud noises for prolonged periods of time. Will need to transport campers’ supplies (up to 40 pounds), to various locations in the Science Center daily. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • HS diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be able to provide close supervision of campers ranging in age from 5-9, throughout various locations in the Science Center.
  • Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to directions involving emergencies for other safety-sensitive situations.
  • May be subject to large crowds and loud noises for prolonged periods of time.
  • Will need to transport campers’ supplies (up to 40 pounds), to various locations in the Science Center daily.
  • Workplace experience teaching and working with children ages 5-9 in either a formal or informal setting required.

Nice To Haves

  • College courses in relevant Science, Informal Education, Museum Studies, or child development preferred.
  • 1 year of working experience is required, cultural institution experience and/or people facing work highly desirable.
