About The Position

The position involves providing direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp. The role focuses on creating positive, nurturing relationships with children while building cooperative relationships with parents and caregivers. The individual will promote and support the potential of all youth in programs and facilitate peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Must complete all licensing training within 30 days of hire.
  • 1-year experience working with children; experience in a day camp setting preferred.
  • Experience in outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games preferred.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Required to be fingerprinted.
  • Medical clearance and immunizations required.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Must receive ODJFS (Ohio Department of Job and Family Services) licensing certification within 30 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety of children at all times through appropriate supervision of program participants while adhering to YMCA and state licensing staff to child ratios.
  • Assist in implementing age-appropriate techniques for behavior management of children.
  • Plan and implement program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values.
  • Adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Attend and manage students during all field trips.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
  • Cultivate positive relationships and maintain effective communication with parents, children, and other staff.
  • Plan, lead, and participate in a range of activities in various outdoor/indoor settings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
