About The Position

The CAMP Coordinator is a seasonal position. We offer competitive compensation, and PTO for seasonal employees. Job Purpose: The Camp Coordinator supervises all camp staff from one of the following areas (depending on assignment): General Recreation, Sports, Ice Rink, or Special Interests/Arts. The Coordinator ensures that staff follow camp schedules, fulfill job responsibilities and adhere to safety requirements. The Coordinator oversees the development of camp itineraries, creates schedules, leads staff meetings, and provides on-site supervision for assigned camps, while following Park District rules, safety procedures, and policies.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license. This position requires a pre-employment drug test and is part of a random program
  • Certification in advanced Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 1 month of employment and keep certification current. The District provides this training.
  • Must obtain Mandated Reporter Certification
  • Must have experience supervising staff or volunteers
  • Must be organized and able to coordinate multiple activities in multiple locations
  • Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and able to learn RecTrac computer software as needed
  • Must have the ability to solve problems as they arise and be able to perform tasks with minimal or without supervision
  • Must be highly motivated and able to assume a positive and active role in the camp, even while working under potentially stressful conditions (hot or cold weather, upset or injured participants, etc.)
  • Must have the ability to be firm with participants and staff when necessary, enforce park district rules, and make sound decisions in order to secure the safety and well-being of all campers, facilities, and equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Currently working towards or has received a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation, Physical Education, Sport Management, Health, Education, or a related field
  • Have at least 2 years’ experience planning and executing programs for youth, preferably in a recreation setting

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in all training prior to the start of camp
  • Play an active role in supervising camps while monitoring all day camp staff (counselors, supervisors, counselors in training) in assigned program area
  • Assist with pre-camp registration, communication, and patron inquiries
  • Assist with the printing and distribution of weekly rosters, emergency forms, and calendars
  • Organize training materials to ACA standards with assistance of Program Supervisor
  • Delegate duties and tasks to camp staff, including pool and field trip stations when applicable
  • Pass a driving skills assessment and drive the 15 passenger van
  • Set and enforce camp rules and expectations with both staff and campers
  • Understand, communicate, and enforce Park District rules and policies to campers and the public
  • Assist with bi-weekly payroll
  • Schedule and lead in-service trainings and meetings
  • Prepare and review mid-season and final evaluations for all camp staff
  • Monitor lesson plans to ensure they include varied age appropriate activities that will keep campers active, excited, safe, and engaged
  • Address any staff or camper behavior/disciplinary issues with the appropriate individuals
  • Inventory camp and first aid supplies; requisition when as needed
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive public image by addressing questions and concerns from staff, patrons, participants, and parents immediately
  • Maintain existing allotted budget per camp and assist with the financial process with monthly statements
  • Become familiar with participants and parents; know their names, personalities, skills and interests
  • Identify and observe equipment daily for possible maintenance needs and adjustments; report maintenance needs to Supervisor
  • Complete all paperwork as required including, but not limited to reports and logs
  • Wear Park District staff shirt and identification during all work hours
  • Occasionally assist with events and programs
  • Complete other duties as assigned by Supervisor or other Park District administration
