About The Position

This position is responsible for: Planning, preparing, cooking and serving nutritional meals and snacks in accordance with established guidelines and schedules; ensures all meals are prepared and served in a safe and presentable manner; cleans kitchen facilities, equipment, and appliances; maintains inventory of kitchen supplies and food in a neat and orderly manner; assigns, instructs and monitors work of Camp Kitchen Assistant. Performs a variety of housekeeping duties for a camp year-round; Cleans bedrooms; washes, stores, and distributes linens; ensures the neatness and cleanliness of all buildings on campgrounds on a daily basis. Key Responsibilities: Must follow all Site and Food Service Accreditation Standards set forth by American Camp Association. Oversees preparation of food. Ensures that enough food is prepared based on the number of people to be served and that food is prepared in a timely manner as scheduled. Prepares and cooks food as the menu indicates utilizing frying, boiling, broiling, steaming, roasting of meat, poultry, seafood, fish, vegetables, salads, soups and gravies. Cleans, cooks, and prepares a variety of foods and beverages utilizing kitchen equipment, utensils, and supplies in accordance with acceptable and economical cooking methods. Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms; cleans sinks and toilets, polishes mirrors, and replenishes supplies. Sweeps, vacuums, mops and waxes floors; sweeps sidewalks. Washes, folds and stores laundry and linens. Cleans windows, dust, and polishes furniture and fixtures. Assists in performing routine check of housekeeping areas and all buildings for possible work orders, reports as necessary. Assist in maintaining the grounds around all buildings on the grounds; pick up trash or debris from around all buildings as necessary. Maintains and keeps stocked all housekeeping closets and supplies. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to exert the physical energy to perform housekeeping and minor maintenance work details on a daily basis. Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and climbing. Ability to drive a golf cart. Work may be performed in an office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like, but not limited to the office environment. Work may require driving a vehicle and working outdoors with exposure to physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

Requirements

  • Ability to meet attendance requirements
  • Ability to exert the physical energy to perform housekeeping and minor maintenance work details on a daily basis
  • Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and climbing
  • Ability to drive a golf cart
  • No formal education or experience required
  • Valid State Driver’s License
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities

Nice To Haves

  • Three years’ experience cooking food for large groups with some experience coordinating the work of other kitchen staff preferred
  • Six (6) months experience performing general housekeeping duties
