About The Position

The Environmental Education Instructor / Camp Counselor position is a temporary role with work opportunities between April and October. Applicants can choose to work 9-hour day shifts (7:30am-4:30pm), 15-hour night shifts (4:30pm-7:30am), or both, depending on their preference and Camp staffing needs. Daytime staff are responsible for delivering Camp Colton's experiential outdoor education curriculum and programs to student campers, collaborating with other instructors and classroom teachers to enhance camper learning experiences. Overnight staff deliver evening programs, supervise campers during the night, and ensure their safety. All staff contribute to the overall functionality of the Camp and ensure a positive outdoor educational experience for all participants.

Requirements

  • Participate in a pre-season training/orientation class.
  • Current Fingerprint Clearance Card (can obtain when hired).
  • Valid driver's license and ability to provide personal transportation to the Camp site.
  • Enjoy working with children and in an outdoor setting.
  • Motivated, enthusiastic, flexible, team-oriented, and accountable.
  • May be required to qualify to drive district vehicles.

Nice To Haves

  • Current First Aid and CPR certification (can obtain when hired).
  • Current Coconino County Department of Health Services Food Handler's Certificate (can obtain when hired).
  • Current AZ Teacher's Certificate or Substitute Certificate.
  • Prior experience teaching and working with children.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure a positive, enjoyable, and safe experience for student campers, staff, and visitors.
  • Participate in and support all Camp activities.
  • Support the Camp's risk management plan and participate in weekly debrief meetings with the Camp Director.
  • Assist the Camp Director with ensuring overall Camp safety and provide leadership and support to staff and campers.
  • Assist with meal setup, seating, service, and cleanup.
  • Perform miscellaneous camp duties, chores, and cleaning.
  • Manage and ensure the functionality of Camp's resources and equipment, informing the Camp Director of maintenance issues.
  • Deliver high-quality curriculum and instruction at Camp Colton.
  • Supervise and provide childcare to campers within the scope of providing educational services and general program support.
  • Participate in evening activities and deliver high-quality programs during night shifts.
  • Supervise and provide childcare to campers during evening programs and nighttime supervision.
  • Sleep in staff tent and be on call for nighttime issues or emergencies.
  • Assist with camper wake-up routine.

Benefits

  • Salary of $162.00 for a 9-hour day shift or $270 for a 15-hour night shift, $18.00/hour.
