POSITION SUMMARY: To assess cabin counselor performance daily to assure standards are maintained. Train and develop staff members, providing feedback that allows for the continual growth and development of staff. Ensure that female campers and staff are physically and emotionally safe at camp, while also having fun. Be present in the cabin areas on a daily basis. Interact with campers and staff on a daily basis – at meals, evening programs, other program times, etc. Conduct face checks to ensure cabins report promptly and all counselors and campers are present. Provide direction to both staff and campers who are not following rules or contractual obligations. Manage supervision during shower and devotional times. Coordinate and supervise cabin night activity. Manage “area duty” responsibilities of female staff members. Collect and sort laundry after bridge weekends for all female campers and staff members. Provide feedback that allows for effective growth and development of female staff members. Conduct regular area meetings. Lend support to female staff members after lights out in the appropriate cabin areas. Observe, correct and evaluate female staff members concerning their interactions and leadership with campers. Complete written evaluations of staff mid-season and at the end of the season to be submitted to the camp director. Verbally discuss the evaluations with each staff member. Conduct cabin cleanliness checks on Opening and Closing Day of each session. Make suggested camp counselor cabin assignments to the appropriate “camp” director. Ensure that female campers and staff are physically and emotionally safe, while also having fun at Camp Cherokee. Greet and accommodate parents as needed on Opening day. Visit any camper or female staff member that may be in the Health Center. Check e-mails and voicemails daily, communicate directly with parents concerning their camper(s). Contact parents of all first year campers by Wednesday of each session. Manage lost and found items and return them to their appropriate owner. Assist other program staff when needed. Opening/ Closing Day Responsibilities Assist Evening Program Director Plan and supervise campers and staff during “bridge” sessions. Actively assist in “OD” responsibilities. Assist in supervision during off site trips. Select an Honor Cabin at the end of each session; present the honor creatively at closing banquet. Deliver pre-sorted mail to cabins daily. Identify and manage cabin supply needs. Assume additional responsibilities as directed by the camp director team.
