The Brook – Dupont is a 88-bed hospital offering a full continuum of inpatient, extended care, residential, partial hospitalization and outpatient services for adolescents, adults and seniors. Our specialized treatment services are provided by a multidisciplinary team of highly trained psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, addiction counselors, nurses, pastoral counselors and activity therapists. The Call Specialist – Admissions Clerk plays a key role in the Evaluation & Referral Department, providing excellent customer service and administrative support to ensure smooth intake and referral processes for patients and referral sources.

  • Answer and triage incoming calls within three rings using a professional greeting.
  • Obtain and document accurate clinical, demographic, and insurance information.
  • Conduct telephonic risk assessments to determine level of suicidality or homicidality for callers in crisis.
  • Provide therapeutic and crisis intervention skills to achieve resolution for callers.
  • Maintain and update documentation of calls, referrals, and admissions in the call system.
  • Communicate potential admissions, transfers, and bed availability with co-workers and leadership.
  • Explain hospital programs, admissions processes, and requirements to patients and referral sources.
  • Assist with departmental support tasks such as patient safety rounds, securing belongings, and follow-up calls to “no-show” appointments.
  • Perform data entry and clerical operations in adherence to hospital policy.
  • Ensure compliance with EMTALA and HIPAA regulations at all times.
  • Education – A bachelors degree is preferred for this role .
  • Years of experience needed –Previous experience with direct patient care in a behavioral health setting is strongly preferred.
  • Certifications – Must maintain current CPR certification.
  • Computer skills – Ability to: gain training through web-based programs; participate in employee surveys; enroll in company benefits.
  • Communication – Must possess excellent verbal skills in communicating with patients, coworkers and visitors.
  • Teamwork – Must be able to actively participate in a treatment team environment.
