About The Position

We are seeking exceptional candidates for the position of Calibrator – Suspension Features, within GM’s Vehicle Motion Embedded Controls (VMEC) Steering, Suspension, and Performance Race Software organization. This is a new and fast-growing area of the business with ample opportunities for technical and thought leadership. The Calibrator – Suspension Features is responsible for calibrating features related to a variety of Suspension control systems including the diagnostics associated with those systems. The goal of the calibration work is to provide safe and confident vehicle performance to the customer. Suspension calibration involves significant hands-on time spent driving, evaluating and calibrating vehicles, deep technical analysis of the resulting data, and efforts to continually enhance the underlying algorithm, controls and processes. In addition to in-vehicle work, calibration engineers utilize advanced tools to achieve their goals including vehicle simulation environments, HiL benches and DiL simulators. The engineers accomplish this work among a collaborative team of peer calibrators, algorithm specialists, HiL engineers, system feature owners and performance engineers. The ideal candidate should possess experience with vehicle control systems, in-vehicle performance evaluation, vehicle dynamics, calibration experience in a complex technology area, along with demonstrated planning, communication, teamwork, and prioritization skills. This role will involve the creation of calibration processes, procedures, and methods for an all-new calibration team. The ideal candidate will need to be able to deal with the ambiguity that is associated with a new team.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical degree
  • Minimum 2+ years of relevant engineering experience (Suspension, vehicle dynamics, chassis/driveline performance, chassis controls, calibration, etc.)
  • Thorough physics-based knowledge of vehicle dynamics and suspension subsystems
  • Experience calibrating on production programs
  • Experience with GM standard calibration processes (Stages PoE)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coordinate and motivate the performance of a cross-functional team and achieve substantial
  • Demonstrates influence without administrative authority
  • Exercises independent judgment with minimal input from leaders
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical direction to other engineers and engineering support personnel
  • Very high level of analytical problem-solving skills where problems are unusual and difficult
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute new processes
  • Creates and maintains an environment that enables all participants to contribute to full potential
  • Familiarity with Virtual development tools / environments
  • Fluent with in-vehicle development tools (INCA, NeoVI, etc.)
  • GM Level 2 driving certification and a willingness to achieve Level 3 driving certification
  • GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role. Do not apply for this role if you will need GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future. This includes direct company sponsorship, entry of GM as the immigration employer of record on a government form, and any work authorization requiring a written submission or other immigration support from the company (e.g., H1-B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, J-1, etc).
