About The Position

Would you like to be the one that establishes and implements the site wide calibration program covering all measuring and monitoring equipment used in production, laboratories, maintenance, and packaging operations for the new LEGO manufacturing site in Virginia? The Calibration and Metrology Engineer will be responsible for establishing, implementing, and continuously improving the calibration and metrology program for the Virginia manufacturing facility. This role ensures that all measurement, monitoring, and testing equipment used across the end-to-end manufacturing environment maintains accuracy, traceability, and compliance with internal quality standards and regulatory requirements. The facility includes injection molding, tooling validation, quality laboratories, and packaging operations. In this position, the Calibration and Metrology Engineer acts as the site technical lead for measurement systems and ensures that reliable and consistent measurements support product quality and process capability. Will partner closely with Maintenance Engineering, Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and the Production teams to establish robust measurement practices aligned with the Integrated Management System (IMS) and industry standards. The Quality Department at our Virginia site is a pivotal part of our operations, dedicated to ensuring that our plastic and injection-molded components meet the highest standards of quality and safety. This team collaborates closely not only with our Molding and Packing divisions locally, but also with global quality networks to implement best practices, driving innovation and consistency across all products. By integrating cutting-edge technology and rigorous testing protocols, the department plays a crucial role in maintaining our reputation for excellence. The Calibration & Metrology Engineer is integral to this mission, serving as a bridge between local operations and the broader global QEHS framework. This role not only impacts the site’s quality initiatives but also contributes to the company’s global objectives by ensuring compliance with international standards. Through strategic leadership and collaboration with cross-functional teams, the Engineer supports the organization’s commitment to delivering safe, reliable, and high-quality products worldwide.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, metrology, or a related technical field is preferred.
  • Extensive work experience in calibration, metrology, or measurement systems within a manufacturing environment.
  • Hands on experience with dimensional measurement equipment and calibration procedures.
  • Strong understanding of calibration traceability, measurement uncertainty, and measurement system reliability.
  • Experience working within quality management systems such as ISO 9001.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting injection molding, plastics manufacturing, tooling, or precision manufacturing environments is preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification or equivalent is preferred.
  • Consistent track record to influence technical practices across multi-functional teams is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the calibration strategy, procedures, documentation, and processes required to ensure measurement equipment is properly controlled throughout its lifecycle.
  • Build and maintain the calibration asset inventory and ensure all equipment is tracked, scheduled, and documented according to defined calibration requirements.
  • Ensure calibration traceability to recognized national or international standards such as NIST.
  • Develop calibration procedures, work instructions, and documentation to support consistent and reliable calibration practices across the facility.
  • Support selection and implementation of calibration management systems or digital tools to supervise calibration activities.
  • Coordinate external calibration service providers and ensure vendor calibrations meet traceability and documentation requirements.
  • Evaluate and lead out of tolerance conditions and support impact assessments when measurement instruments are identified as out of calibration.
  • Serve as the technical authority for dimensional and physical measurement systems across molding, tooling, laboratories, and packaging operations.
  • Support the implementation, validation, and continuous improvement of measurement technologies and inspection systems.
  • Provide training and guidance to engineers, technicians, and operators on correct handling and use of measurement equipment.
  • Support root cause investigations and quality improvement activities where measurement system performance may impact product quality.
  • Find opportunities to improve calibration workflows, documentation practices, and reliability of measurement systems.
  • Support process validation activities by ensuring appropriate measurement readiness.
