The Operations Manager - Tech position at Cain Park is a seasonal part-time role that encompasses various responsibilities related to lighting and technical operations for park events. The role includes overseeing house rigging, lighting design, video wall deployment, and conducting equipment training. The position requires direct reporting to the Production Manager and/or General Manager and involves working through scheduled park events, maintaining and operating lighting during performances, and assisting with the execution of performance requirements. The individual will also be responsible for supervising the lighting setup and maintenance, ensuring safety levels, and training technical crew members.

  • Directly report to the Production Manager and/or the General Manager.
  • Work scheduled Park events through load-in, load-out, rehearsals, performance, and strike as scheduled.
  • Maintain and operate lighting during performances.
  • Design light plots for theater performances in the Alma Theater and Evans season plot.
  • Take care of, clean, and maintain all rigging, instruments, cables, and power distros related to the house lighting rig.
  • Assist with the execution of all performance requirements including rigging points, truss rigging, speaker rigging, running a follow spot, acting as a deckhand, and setting or striking any elements during a show.
  • Help with the construction, installation, and maintenance of scaffolding and masking for the Evans Amphitheater set-up.
  • Supervise and focus all Cain Park light plots.
  • Assist with the safe and correct installation of any additional lighting equipment brought into the Park by scheduled artists or rental companies.
  • Keep LX building and other equipment rooms clean and organized throughout the season.
  • Assist with shutdown activities, including end-of-season inventory of materials and supplies on hand and the values of each.
  • Stay within the lighting budget and compromise when necessary.
  • Responsible for show day design/set up/tear down of site lighting.
  • Communicate all practical and theatrical light lamp needs to the production manager and/or the Operations Manager.
  • Lift 50+ lbs. and assist in loading and unloading trucks.
  • Maintain high safety levels at all times.
  • Train technical crew in the proper use and maintenance of the venue equipment.
  • Maintain chain motors, truss, cables, and all other elements of video wall operation.
  • Assist with the set up and maintenance of the Clear Com headset system.
  • Repair and/or replace any damaged LED display panels.
  • Assist Production manager in advancing tour video and lighting needs.
  • Work with other Cain Park and/or City employees for any additional Arts Festival or Park production needs.
  • Attend all production meetings, weekly staff meetings, and any other meetings as required.
  • Submit a written final report summarizing the Events of the season and suggestions for improvement.
  • Work with operations manager to coordinate facility work, facility maintenance, and inspections required.
  • Supervise operations crew daily tasks in conjunction with operations manager schedule.
  • Strong understanding of IT systems, infrastructure, and software development life cycles.
  • Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Asana, Jira, Trello) and process improvement methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean).
  • Experience with data analysis tools and platforms (e.g., Excel, SQL, Tableau, Power BI).
