About The Position

The Cafeteria Manager at Brenham ISD is responsible for overseeing the child nutrition operations on campus, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and maintaining high standards of food safety and sanitation. This role involves managing personnel, supervising food preparation and service, and ensuring that all food programs operate within budgetary constraints while promoting excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Certified Food Safety Manager certification.
  • Three or more years of work experience in food production and service, with at least one year in public-school food service preferred.
  • Working knowledge of quantity food production and commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to manage personnel and read, comprehend, and carry out instructions in various forms.
  • Basic computer skills for food ordering, production, inventory, and record keeping.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with point of sales systems and spreadsheets.
  • Skills in word processing and email communication.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the preparation and service of high-quality food for students and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all rules and regulations of the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs.
  • Direct, train, and supervise cooks, food service workers, and cashiers in proper food preparation and handling.
  • Prepare and post work and cleaning schedules for all employees.
  • Prepare and review computerized performance evaluations with all employees.
  • Recommend employees for promotion, transfer, and disciplinary action.
  • Prepare and complete accurate food production records for reimbursement claims.
  • Responsible for cashiering and cash accounting procedures, including daily bank deposits.
  • Operate programs within established budget for food, supplies, and labor.
  • Determine the type and quantity of food and supplies to order based on menu needs.
  • Supervise sanitation and safety practices in the kitchen as established by relevant agencies.
  • Monitor inventory of kitchen supplies for budgetary controls.
  • Compile, maintain, and submit reports including invoices and food orders.
  • Implement marketing events for the school cafeteria to increase participation.
  • Participate in the menu planning process with the Child Nutrition Director.
