About The Position

Burton School District serves over 4,900 students and their parents in California's central valley. Burton is dedicated to high quality 21st century education. The Cafeteria Helper, under supervision of the Director of Food Services and direction of the Lead Cook, assists in the preparation and serving of food in a cafeteria or a satellite operation; assists in maintaining food services, facilities and equipment in a neat, safe and sanitary condition.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school or possession of GED required; supplemented by one (1) year of food service experience.
• Possession of valid First Aid Certificate.
• Knowledge of district policies and procedures as they apply.
• Knowledge of methods and practices of food service involving food preparation, serving and clean-up.
• Ability to prepare and serve the school breakfast and lunch program in an efficient and cost effective manner.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment requiring speed and accuracy.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
• Ability to perform moderate physical exertion.

Responsibilities

• Perform a wide variety of specialized food service tasks; interpret and apply rules and regulations as appropriate.
• Assist in the preparation and serving of school breakfast and lunch program in compliance with federal and state regulations.
• Assist in maintaining a clean, orderly work area.
• Assist in packaging and delivery of meals; assist in the service of meals to students and staff.
• Operate a variety of food-related equipment and machines.
