Position Summary The Cafeteria Cook – Staff Meals plays a key role in supporting the daily operations and culture of Palm House by preparing high-quality, nutritious, and well-balanced meals for team members. This position is responsible for the planning, preparation, and service of daily staff meals while upholding the culinary standards, food safety practices, and professionalism expected in a luxury hospitality environment. The ideal candidate is an experienced, dependable culinary professional who takes pride in consistency, efficiency, and presentation. This role contributes directly to employee satisfaction and morale by delivering thoughtful, flavorful meals in a clean, organized, and welcoming staff dining setting.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary training or certification preferred
  • Minimum 2–4 years of experience as a cook in a hotel, resort, institutional, or high-volume kitchen environment
  • Solid knowledge of cooking techniques, food preparation, and kitchen operations
  • Strong cooking, knife, and food preparation skills across a variety of cuisines
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • High attention to detail and consistency in quality
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility to adjust menus based on availability, dietary needs, or operational requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and repetitive hand motions
  • Ability to safely operate kitchen equipment including ovens, ranges, grills, steam tables, slicers, and mixers
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, and humid kitchen environments
  • Stamina and focus to maintain performance during high-volume meal periods

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience preparing staff or cafeteria meals strongly preferred
  • ServSafe or equivalent Food Handler Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and serve daily breakfast and lunch meals for Palm House employees in the staff cafeteria
  • Execute menus according to standardized recipes, portion controls, and nutritional balance guidelines
  • Ensure consistency in flavor, appearance, and portion size for all staff meals
  • Assist in planning and rotating weekly or bi-weekly cafeteria menus to provide variety and balanced options
  • Accommodate dietary needs and preferences when possible (e.g., vegetarian, allergies, cultural considerations)
  • Maintain adequate food levels throughout service to ensure timely and efficient meal periods
  • Support preparation for special staff events, meetings, or holiday meals as needed
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards in accordance with HACCP guidelines and local health regulations
  • Ensure all food is prepared, held, and served at proper temperatures
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen, prep, and service area at all times
  • Properly label, date, rotate, and store all food products to prevent spoilage and contamination
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen tools, equipment, and workstations after each use
  • Conduct and document temperature checks for hot and cold storage as required
  • Report any safety, sanitation, or maintenance concerns to the Chef or Manager immediately
  • Assist with monitoring inventory levels and rotating product to minimize waste
  • Communicate low stock levels or supply needs to the Executive Chef or Sous Chef in a timely manner
  • Receive, inspect, and properly store deliveries according to quality and safety standards
  • Follow cost-control and waste-reduction practices aligned with Palm House operational goals
  • Provide courteous, professional, and respectful service to all Palm House team members
  • Contribute to a positive and welcoming staff dining experience that reflects the company’s culture of hospitality
  • Work collaboratively with kitchen leadership and cafeteria team members to ensure smooth daily operations
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and support a respectful workplace environment
  • Assist with menu planning and feedback discussions for the staff meal program
  • Track daily meal counts, production notes, and food waste as assigned
  • Follow Palm House uniform, grooming, and appearance standards at all times
  • Perform additional culinary or operational duties as assigned by kitchen leadership
