About The Position

The Cafeteria Assistant Manager at IDEA Brownsville plays a crucial role in supporting the Cafeteria Manager to ensure the delivery of nutritious meals to students. This position involves overseeing food production, maintaining quality standards, managing inventory, and ensuring compliance with food safety regulations. The Assistant Manager will also engage with parents and students, manage sales records, and contribute to the overall mission of promoting health within the school district.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years of experience in food service, restaurant, or hospitality industry required.
  • Leadership experience preferred.
  • Valid Texas driver's license required.
  • Valid Food Handler's Card preferred (willing to obtain within the first 30 days).
  • Knowledge of food production methods and safety practices.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel).
  • Ability to handle stress and meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a school food service environment.
  • Certification in food safety or nutrition.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Cafeteria Manager in leading the CNP team at the campus level.
  • Place daily and weekly orders for food and supplies.
  • Monitor the quality of food production in the kitchen.
  • Maintain sales records and process payments.
  • Provide customer service to parents and students.
  • Manage inventory and coordinate with the Cafeteria Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with food and nutrition standards set by USDA and state agencies.
  • Conduct internal audits of counting and claiming procedures.
  • Direct the team to execute the approved menu 100% every day.
  • Ensure every student takes a reimbursable meal.
  • Enter all meal counts correctly into internal trackers.
  • Recruit and train Food Service Specialists and Substitutes.
  • Hold weekly employee huddles to discuss operations and nutrition.
  • Review and submit employee timesheets for accurate payroll.
  • Provide feedback on individual work performance and growth opportunities.
  • Promote the meal program to parents during campus events.
  • Implement and maintain a salad bar for students.
