About The Position

The Cafeteria Aide is responsible for actively supervising students in the cafeteria during the lunchtime period. This role involves helping with the transition of students into and around the lunchroom, assisting them in the orderly procurement of their lunches, and ensuring that students are safe, orderly, and mannerly while eating. The Aide will work with students to teach appropriate lunchroom etiquette, good manners, and the importance of cleaning up after themselves, while also encouraging positive interactions among students.

Requirements

• Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Ability to lift 20-25 pounds.
• Ability to relate to children in a positive but firm manner.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills with children and adults.
• Ability to work as a member of a team.
• Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children.
• Emotionally resilient in working with challenging behaviors.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students in the cafeteria during lunchtime.
• Assist with the transition of students into and around the lunchroom.
• Help students procure their lunches in an orderly manner.
• Ensure students are safe and mannerly while eating.
• Teach students appropriate lunchroom etiquette and good manners.
• Encourage positive intermingling of students.
• Guide groups of students through the lunchroom.
• Monitor student behavior and provide appropriate discipline as necessary within school rules.
• Assist younger children in getting lunch trays, milk, and condiments.
• Help children open lunch items.
• Assist students in cleaning up after themselves, including spills and trash disposal.
• Help wash tables and pick up floor trash between lunch sessions and after lunch.
• Work with kitchen, custodial, and instructional staff to improve lunchtime efficiency.
• Remove trash from the lunchroom and deposit it in waste containers.
• Perform general cleanup of the lunchroom.
• Assist staff in providing adequate lunch breaks while supervising students.
