About The Position

The Cafe Merchandiser is responsible for providing strategic guidance and operational support across multiple cafe locations while ensuring consistent brand standards, quality control, and innovative product development. This role combines creativity with operational expertise to drive sales growth, improve customer experience, and keep the business at the forefront of cafe and barista industry trends.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED and some college education are preferred
  • Five years of cafe operations or food service management preferred, or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Current Food Handler Permit
  • Proven track record in training and developing staff
  • Must enjoy working with and handling coffee and gelato products
  • Should have a passion for preparing, drinking, and eating coffee and gelato products
  • Experience with menu development and recipe creation
  • Experience with visual merchandising in retail food service
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices
  • Creative problem-solver with an eye for detail
  • Self-motivated with excellent time management abilities
  • Ability to advocate, analyze, and understand technology to be effective personally and have an impact on business performance
  • Knowledge of the retail food business, thorough knowledge of perishable department operations, merchandising skills, and must be able to make timely and effective decisions
  • Solid communication skills, including verbal and listening skills in order to effectively and efficiently communicate with and manage diverse groups of people
  • Ability to professionally and appropriately handle conflict
  • Ability to accept constructive review and be accountable for one's own success as well as the success of the team

Responsibilities

  • Follows established department and store policies and procedures
  • Ensures the quality and freshness of all products and services the Cafe Department provides
  • Responsible for maintaining the appropriate product assortment and inventory levels for the Cafe Department
  • Confirms pricing accuracy and signage for all products, paying particular attention to ad items
  • Meets customer service expectations through communications, problem resolution, and follow-up
  • Orders product and creates production sheets to meet the needs of the Cafe Department based on past and projected sales
  • Develops and implements merchandising plans for Cafe Departments
  • Promotes and markets Cafe items via store displays, etc.
  • Continually observes Cafe Department conditions and takes action to correct areas of opportunity
  • Sets a professional and positive example to others
  • Communicates openly and frequently with Store Directors and the Director of Fresh Bakery
  • Ensures company standards for safety, sanitation, and productivity are maintained
  • Teaches, mentors, and educates associates to help them be successful members of the team
  • Provides honest, direct, and constant feedback to associates regarding their performance and areas of improvement
  • Assesses associate performance and influences promotion, discipline, etc.
  • Promptly addresses and resolves associates' concerns and/or grievances
  • Performs quarterly inventory of all cafe products
  • Provide ongoing guidance and support to multiple cafe locations to ensure consistency in product quality, presentation, and customer service
  • Conduct regular on-site visits to assess operations, provide feedback, and implement improvements
  • Research and stay informed on emerging trends in the cafe and related industries
  • Document and standardize successful recipes for implementation across all locations
  • Design attractive and effective merchandise displays to enhance the customer experience and increase sales
  • Create visual merchandising standards and guidelines for consistent implementation across all locations
  • Establish and maintain quality standards for all food and beverage products
  • Conduct regular quality audits and tastings to ensure consistency across locations
  • Troubleshoot quality issues and implement corrective measures
  • Analyze sales data to identify trends and opportunities for growth
  • Provide input on pricing strategies to maximize profitability while maintaining competitive positioning
