About The Position

The Café Attendant holds the responsibility to prepare, merchandise and sell food in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations Vicar's Landing established policies and procedures and as maybe directed by the Director and/or Assistant Director of Dining Services to assure that quality food and service is always provided. Café Attendant is also responsible for the a.m. table service in the Main Dining Room and will follow established policies and procedures regarding table food service to our members.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and speak English, perform simple arithmetic, and follow oral instructions in English. Running basic cash register preferred.
  • Ability to interpret and explain the menu, answer, or refer questions, coordinate the meal service process, and respond to requests.
  • Major physical functions include standing, stooping, walking short distances 90% of the time, ability to lift 30 pounds and carry 10 feet 5% of the time, pushing and pulling carts 5% of the time
  • Must be able to bend and pick up items from the floor and reach above head to remove items from shelves.
  • Ability to work in close cooperation with Members, guests and staff with courtesy, tact and graciousness.
  • Must possess understanding of hospitality, customer service, table service technique, personal hygiene, and professional appearance.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age to work during school hours.
  • May be subject to hostile and emotional Members. Must be able to handle such situations with a positive service attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare merchandise and sell salads, deli items, desserts etc. in accordance with sanitary regulations standardized recipes merchandising requirement/portion controls and time schedules.
  • Plans food production to coordinate with meal serving hours, so that quality, temperature, and appearance of food is preserved.
  • Ensure the menu board is prepared, register is open, deli is clean, orderly, stocked, and ready for business prior to 11:00 a.m.
  • Takes orders, provides service and request items both graciously and courteously.
  • Assist in maintaining a high level of customer service for our residents and their guests.
  • Ensure change bank is picked up and verified and all sales are rung up and charge tickets written as needed.
  • Register is "X" and "Z" and change date at the close of service each day.
  • Determines amount and type of food and supplies required for daily menus and sees that supplies are obtained from storage areas in adequate time for meal production.
  • Assure that all food storage areas are clean and properly always arranged.
  • Properly store, label and date all food items.
  • Maintains workstation in a safe and sanitary condition, which includes washing pots, pans, and dishes.
  • Maintains acceptable standards of personal hygiene and complies with department dress code.
  • Reports to work as scheduled. Good attendance is very important to maintain consistent quality service.
  • Takes orders, provides service, and requested items both graciously and courteously.
  • Responsible for setting tables and maintaining workstations according to Vicar's Landing policies and procedures.
  • Attends in-service training and education sessions as assigned.
  • Communicates effectively any/all menu selections, specials, and requests.
  • Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
