About The Position

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a Civil Designer to join our Norfolk office. The Civil Designer will develop drawings using Autodesk Civil 3D for use in planning, reports, and construction documents on Civil, Port, Maritime, and Infrastructure Engineering projects. This role is idea for someone with a strong foundation in civil design principles including site layout, grading, drainage and utility plans. A strong foundation in these concepts will allow the candidate to contribute meaningfully to projects from concept through construction documents. The civil designer will play a key role in project execution and must be capable of leading drawing collaboration across multidisciplinary teams. Requirements

  • Associates Degree or equivalent in relevant discipline; required Bachelor's Degree; preferred
  • 2+ years of site development experience; required
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D experience; required
  • Understanding and application of CAD standards
  • Good numeracy, geometry and computer skills
  • Understanding of construction methods
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

  • Microstation experience; preferred

Responsibilities

  • Transform initial rough designs and mark-ups into finished working documents
  • Develop digital terrain models (typically Civil3D surfaces) of existing and proposed topography.
  • Develop three dimensional models of underground utility systems (typically using Civil3D pipe networks)
  • Assist designers and senior technicians with preparation of engineering drawing packages
  • Draft plan, profile, section, and detail drawings of structures and installations such as cargo terminals, marinas, wharfs, bulkhead walls and coastal structures (beaches, revetments, breakwaters and jetties) as well as other civil engineering projects
  • Review engineering drawings to ensure adherence to established standards
  • Compute volumes of excavations and fill for dredging and earth-moving projects
  • Responsible for maintaining organization, well-structured drawing files.
