The Opportunity This position works out of our Sturgis, MI location in the Abbott Nutrition division. What You’ll Work On The CAD Technician provides comprehensive engineering and technical support across production, projects, R&D, and administrative functions by assisting with existing and proposed production line layouts, drafting machinery and spare parts, and maintaining accurate, up‑to‑date drawings reflecting engineering and maintenance changes. They oversee assigned engineering projects from initiation through completion, managing affected and as‑built drawings, ensuring drawing accuracy, and supporting validation activities for facilities, processes, and equipment. They serve as a technical resource for plant and division collaboration, integrating new technologies with existing systems to improve processes, and managing plant utility responsibilities including Miss Dig notifications, underground utility marking, and excavation and core drilling permits. Administratively, they demonstrate diplomatic leadership, promote a strong safety culture, provide timely and accurate recommendations to management, act as liaison with the City of Sturgis for permits and inspections, and maintain control and tracking of over 10,000 drawings through the division’s drawing management system.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • 2+ years of demonstrated AutoCAD experience preferably in a multi discipline setting
  • Capable of interpreting engineering specifications and drawings
  • Good verbal communication and technical writing ability
  • Ability to read and update engineering drawings

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in architectural, mechanical or engineering technology is preferred and two (2) years applicable industrial experience, or, four (4) years industrial experience in a manufacturing operation

Responsibilities

  • Under the leadership and direction of a Project Engineer, provides technical support to the plant’s manufacturing objectives
  • Assists in the development, implementation and follow-up of projects, processes and maintenance programs within assigned area of responsibility
  • Troubleshoots and recommends solutions to problems with equipment, processes and/or instrumentation as requested
  • Plans, coordinates, documents and implements specific engineering projects as directed
  • You’ll be accountable for meeting our compliance standards including FDA, OSHA and Abbott policies and procedures.
