CAD Operator

Walker White Mechanical is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CAD Operator to support our growing mechanical contracting team in Columbia, South Carolina. This role provides hands-on involvement in drafting and coordinating commercial HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems for a wide range of construction projects. Requirements
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (required)
- Experience with Revit, AutoCAD MEP, and Navisworks preferred
- Minimum 2 years of CAD drafting experience in construction, engineering, or mechanical contracting
- Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical system layouts
- Ability to interpret construction documents and technical specifications
- Familiarity with BIM workflows, coordination processes, and fabrication standards
- Excellent attention to detail, time management, and communication skills
Nice To Haves
- Experience in sheet metal or piping layout
- Knowledge of prefabrication practices
- Understanding of mechanical codes and construction field procedures
Responsibilities
- Produce accurate 2D and 3D AutoCAD drawings for HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems
- Utilize Revit, AutoCAD MEP, and Navisworks for layout coordination and clash detection
- Interpret architectural, structural, and mechanical drawings to develop precise MEP plans
- Draft ductwork, piping, and equipment layouts for installation and fabrication
- Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and engineers to create constructible designs
- Update, revise, and maintain drawings throughout all phases of the project
- Support BIM coordination efforts and assist with model integration on large-scale projects
