About The Position

We’re seeking a detail‑oriented CAD/Design Drafter to create accurate, code‑compliant fire alarm drawing packages—including shop drawings, submittals, record drawings, and O&M manuals. This role requires general or strong knowledge of fire alarm system design, drafting standards, and codes such as NFPA 72/101, IFC, IBC, NEC, ADA, OSHA, and local AHJ requirements.

Requirements

  • Strong customer‑service mindset with excellent organization, time management, and attention to detail
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD (2022–2026), plus Excel, Bluebeam, Adobe, and Microsoft Office
  • General or Solid understanding of NFPA, IFC, IBC, NEC, ADA, OSHA, AHJ requirements, and fire protection engineering principles
  • High technical aptitude with strong critical‑thinking and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to follow company drafting standards and accurately interpret product datasheets/manuals
  • Experience drafting fire alarm systems using major manufacturers, including Siemens, Silent Knight, Potter, Edwards EST, Honeywell, and Notifier
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • The ideal candidate learns and retains information quickly, grows with minimal training, and can develop further with targeted CAD/design drafting training.
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in the design of fire alarm systems.
  • Experience with Onyx Notifier or equivalent network fire alarm system design programs.
  • NICET or the ability to pursue certification within six months of employment.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite, particularly Word, Outlook, Excel.
  • Proficient knowledge of the use of AutoCAD for the purpose of engineering and application of fire alarm and suppression systems.

Responsibilities

  • Works with Guardian Sales Representatives, Project Managers and technical staff to interpret project specifications and drawings, determining system layout.
  • Designs and draws to a professional standard for accurate, neat, and error-free work as determined by the department manager.
  • Completes engineering requests in accordance with sound business practices and general corporate policies.
  • Reviews individual drawings to ensure completeness and accuracy of work performed.
  • Actively participates in personal and professional development and maintains knowledge of current and new technologies that the company offers.
  • Promotes a team environment and assists other designers and engineers with their projects when needed.
