About The Position

The CAD Designer/Drafter will be responsible for creating detailed technical drawings and 3D models of lithium battery components and systems. Working closely with engineers, product managers, and manufacturing teams, this role ensures accurate, efficient, and manufacturable designs that meet our quality and performance standards.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree or certification in Drafting, CAD Technology, Mechanical Design, or a related field.
• 3+ years of professional experience in CAD design, preferably in battery, electronics, or automotive industries.
• Expert proficiency in one of the industry-standard CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD Fusion, or Creo. (Ansys Space claim Preferred)
• Strong understanding of GD&T, mechanical design principles, and material selection.
• Ability to interpret and create complex engineering drawings and schematics.
• Familiarity with lithium-ion battery components and pack design is a strong plus.
• Obsessive attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects.

Nice To Haves

• Work experience in a manufacturing environment. (Machinist, Plastic Injection, Sheetmetal Fab, Automotive, or Aerospace Assembly)
• Experience with thermal and structural design considerations in battery systems.
• Knowledge of ISO and UL design standards.
• Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems (e.g., Arena PLM).
• Experience working in cross-functional teams, including R&D, Quality, and Manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Develop 2D and 3D CAD drawings for lithium-ion battery cells, modules, packs, and associated components.
• Collaborate with engineering and product teams to translate concepts, sketches, and specifications into detailed drawings and models.
• Prepare and update technical documentation, including BOMs, assembly drawings, and tolerance stack-ups.
• Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, internal design guidelines, and manufacturability requirements.
• Maintain and organize CAD libraries, templates, and part databases.
• Assist in design reviews, change management (ECRs/ECNs), and design validation processes.
• Communicate with suppliers and manufacturing teams regarding drawing interpretation, fabrication feasibility, and design adjustments.
• Support prototype development and testing by producing rapid iteration drawings.
• Utilize, maintain, and optimize inhouse 3D printers for rapid prototyping.
