We Energies, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Cable Splicer in our Milwaukee, Wisconsin location. This position is represented by Local 2150. Job Summary There is a State of Wisconsin indentured apprenticeship program associated with this occupation.The Cable Splicer performs the following duties:• Working as a member of and assisting in the direction of a cable crew• Installing and splicing of cables in the conduit and manhole system• Assists in the direction of installation and maintenance of related equipment• Interprets engineering orders and prints in order to coordinate and plan work orders• Instructs and trains employees• Performs other miscellaneous duties as required or assignedJob Responsibilities Perform splicer duties, which includes all duties performed by underground cable splicers which entails lead cable splicing, cable terminations, URD termination transformers, and various types of switches. These splices and terminations are in various voltages ranging from 110 volts to 138,000 volts. At times, voltages up to 5kv need to be worked energized. Directs and performs cable installation and removal in various types of manholes and unique ituations. This includes determining location of splices and terminations and placement of equipment by type of manhole, shored pits, trenches, deep tunnels, and congestion of existing electrical equipment. Coordinates and installs fiber optic telecommunications cable. Conducts daily job briefing that includes all known hazards and eliminating unknown hazards as they arise. This includes: personal protection equipment, signing, and barricading; vehicle placement; pedestrian traffic; rescue equipment; placement and usage of molten lead; fire safety with open flames and torch; hazardous materials; testing hold-off and grounding equipment; proper use of ventilation; heat conditions; cold and ice conditions; work on energized cables and equipment; untrained contractors; asbestos; PCB’s, chemicals, and solvents; and air monitoring equipment. Attends and participates in safety meetings. Directs and guides other employees in the performance of their job duties to include: assigning tasks; outlining the work and methods; checking job progress; correcting errors; ensuring quality control; and providing training as needed. Documentation includes daily job briefings, job orders; job supplements; and various reports such as training, asbestos, PCB, accident forms, timesheets, material orders, repair orders, mapping corrections, standard corrections, manhole inspections; hold-off requests, and driver’s inspections. Knowledge and use of materials in the most cost-effective way. This includes cables, splices, wire, terminations, transformers, switches, and associated hardware. Skills and knowledge in the use of on-the-road and off-the-road vehicles and equipment, specialty tools and their uses (i.e., hand and hydraulic presses and dies). Minimum Qualifications
