The cable plant and service desk technician perform duties under the general supervision of the Executive Vice President of Information Services and Director of Infrastructure but works with the Network Director to provide a variety of functions for the Information Services office.

Requirements

  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to:
  • Two years of college education.
  • Experience pulling and terminating cable
  • Two years of support experience
  • Two years of experience in hardware repair
  • broad-based knowledge of copper cable, fiber optic cable, software, hardware repair, and customer service
  • interest and ability to evaluate emerging technologies

Responsibilities

  • Be able to pull, terminate, test, and repair twisted-pair, coax, and fiber optic cabling.
  • Communicate with management and team members to provide updates on key issues.
  • Help with hardware and software issues as needed.
  • Be able to debug common network issues.
  • Be able to train and supervise student workers.
  • Be able to install wall-mounted televisions, ceiling-mounted projectors, and various audio/video components.
