About The Position

The Cable Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all fiber splicing, testing, and documentation activities that support the cooperative’s broadband network. This position ensures that construction and maintenance work is performed safely, efficiently, and to the cooperative’s quality standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma: associate degree in telecommunications or relevant technical field preferred.
  • Management experience or training courses.
  • Minimum 3 years of fiber optic splicing experience, including FTTH and OSP environments.
  • At least 2 years of OSP engineering.
  • Experience interpreting and developing fiber-optic schematics, including splice diagrams and network layouts.
  • Experience designing FTTx network areas with a strong understanding of fiber optics, including optical budgets, splitter architecture, and GPON/XGS-PON technologies.
  • Extensive experience designing fiber-optic ring networks, with deep knowledge of optical principles and carrier-grade network architecture.
  • Experience working with GIS/mapping systems, MBS, and Microsoft suites.
  • Experience working with engineering and fiber contractors with the understanding of design, staking, and as-builts.
  • Hands-on experience with fiber splicing and testing, including OTDR analysis and the use of industry-standard fiber-optic test equipment.
  • Experience delivering presentations to partner companies, internal PRTC departments, customers, and government agencies, as well as developing quotes and data analyses to support sales and marketing initiatives.
  • Experience researching property records and securing easements to support fiber network construction and expansion.
  • Experience with active cabinet fiber patch panel layout and design, including port assignments

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, schedule, and coordinate the work for in-house and contracted fiber splicing crews.
  • Count and build schematics for Coop splicers and contractors.
  • Ensure fiber splicing, termination, and testing meet cooperative quality and performance standards.
  • Review engineering prints, fiber maps, and splice documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of accurate splice records, OTDR traces, and schematics.
  • Perform and/or oversee fiber splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and restoration work.
  • Ensure compliance with all cooperative safety policies and applicable OSHA regulations.
  • Coordinate with OSP Engineers, Network Operations, and Construction teams to meet project timelines and service goals.
  • Maintain inventory and ensure proper care and calibration of splicing and testing equipment.
  • Train and mentor splicing technicians to promote professional growth and maintain high skill levels.
  • Verify completion and quality of splicing work through inspections and testing (OTDR, power meter, light source).
  • Monitor job progress to meet project timelines, quality standards, and budget requirements.
  • Assist with network restoration during outages or emergencies, including participation in after-hours response as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with management, contractors, and members regarding project status and service impacts.
  • Manage GPON and XGSPON ports budgets and lengths.
